UK National Liver Histopathology EQA Scheme
This specialist histopathology EQA scheme is open to histopathologists in the UK and Ireland. Members include pathologists with a specialist interest in liver pathology working in hepatology centres, and also pathologists in district hospitals wishing to maintain and develop their interest in hepatopathology.
The primary purpose of this scheme is educational - to provide CPD material both to the members through participation in twice-yearly slide circulations, and to non-members through access to the virtual slides and PowerPoint summaries of previous open meeting discussions.

Circulation F1
Liver EQA Circulation F1 - virtual slides
Circulation F1 will commence on 23rd April 2012, and run until 20th July 2012.
Please check your position in your cell from the table
and make a diary note of when to expect and to send on the slides.
For full timetable: F1 schedule of dates
NB. Circulation F1 includes virtual slides of connective tissue stains which should be viewed online to evaluate fibrosis, at the time you write your EQA responses.
Submission of responses is now fully electronic.
There is a word document to draft your responses here
Submission of responses is electronic, using the surveymonkey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/liverEQA_circulation_F1_responses
(External site - new page)
Circulation G1 will run in Autumn 2012, from 27th August to 16th November.
For full timetable: G1 schedule of dates
Circulations F1 and G1 will be discussed at the Liver update meeting on 6th December 2012.
Electronic submission of responses
You can use this Word document to draft and save your responses, then copy and paste each one into the Survey Monkey response sheet to submit them online.
The text boxes match the size. Please keep the responses brief!
When you enter responses online, you will need to do this all in one sitting.
You can't send part of the submission and then come back later to complete it or edit it.
The first page is for your username and password, page 2 is for all your responses, page 3 is to check them and print/save them, and page 4 is to press 'Done' to submit.
If you just enter responses directly online, remember to print a copy for yourself before you submit. It may not be possible to save the online response sheet on your computer (although you can try Ctrl a , Ctrl c and Ctrl v to select, copy and past all of page 2 of the survey into a new word document)
General items
General information and detailed SOPs have been updated in August 2011.

The main value of the EQA scheme is educational. Since July 2003, liver EQA slides have been available as digital images, and can be reviewed together with the responses of the scheme participants and a summary of the meeting discussion. Twice a year, a new circulation with 12 cases is added.
It is often the case with liver biopsies that there is more than one diagnosis present, and/or that the diagnosis includes both morphological and aetiological components. The liver EQA response form is designed to accommodate this, although it is a challenge to condense the free text responses into diagnostic categories for discussion at the EQA meeting.
Ideally, open two windows. View the virtual slides with information provided, make up your mind, check your diagnosis, and read the discussion in the powerpoint presentation. (You can also print yourself a CPD certificate to record your learning points).
