Acute inflammation 2

Created by Prof. Mike Dixon

Male age 43

Tissue: Lung

This man lived on the streets as a vagrant. He abused alcohol, when he could get it. He was admitted to hospital as an emergency, with extreme breathlessness and shock. He had physical signs and X-ray evidence of a pneumonia. Despite oxygen therapy and antibiotics he died within 24 hrs of admission.

The lower lobe of this lung appears to be paler and more solid-looking than the upper lobe. The section comes from the lower lobe.
