Week 3

Lecture outline

The patterns of immune response will be described, concentrating on the role of key cell types such as lymphocytes and macrophages and how abnormal responses can cause disease.

Immunopathology 3

Created by Prof. Mike Dixon

Female age 18

Tissue: Kidney

This young woman was killed in a road traffic accident. She was under investigation for anaemia and persistent haematuria at the time of her death. The kidneys appeared normal at autopsy.

This is a normal glomerulus. Compare it with the glomeruli present in the slide. How do they differ? Look at the tubules, the vasculature and the interstitial tissue. Do you think this patient has a glomerular disease, a tubulo-interstitial disease or a vascular disease.... or a combination?
