Created by Prof. Mike Dixon

Male age 81

Tissue: Aorta

This elderly man was in reasonable health. He developed severe abdominal pain and two hours later became unconscious. He was admitted to hospital in a moribund state and attempts at resuscitation failed.

The abdominal aorta contains a large saccular aneurysm filled with blood clot. The histology slide is taken from the upper margin of the aneurysm. What is the disease and what changes does it show?
