The remaining three weeks are devoted to neoplasia which accounts for 25% of deaths in the population. The principles of benign and malignant tumours are described and their classification explained.

Tissue: Large intestine

This man presented after passing a little fresh-looking blood on defaecation. He was also aware of some mucous discharge. On sigmoidoscopy a polyp was seen in the upper rectum. A segment of large intestine was removed.

A polypoid mass of finger-like or villous fronds.
